Skimming, scanning, and finding information

Ruma Tekau Ma Tahi are currently learning to write information reports and we have been researching about China.

Last week we worked in small groups to find interesting facts about Chinese cuisine using our skimming, scanning, and comprehending strategies. Check out our work...!

We are "creati-ful"...

Kaiti School had school photos today, and we knew that we would have lots of tamariki in and out of class for different group photos - so we organised rotations based on our Term topic 'CHINA'.

Some of us worked on Ako Hui presentations, and the rest of us rotated between making lanterns, making an abacus, writing a report on Chinese cuisine, and practising our spelling...!

Koka shared the learning experiences and expectations with us,our tuakana set up the learning spaces and monitored our learning, and we all worked independently and with one-another. RAWE!!

Rain, rain...

It's raining outside, but that not stopping us from enjoying our play time relaxing in our waterproof beanbag outside...

Making paper...??

I wonder why Ruma Tekau Ma Tahi have turned their Recycling tub into a Paper-Making Kit...?

Watch this space...

Totally Devoted to our health!

Ruma Tekau Ma Tahi explored what it means to be healthy and happy! We discovered that when we are healthy we are happy, and when we are happy we are healthy... :-)

We still LOVE cookies, and we were so lucky to know that we can munch on some yummy cookies that are good for us, too....! We munched and crunched on Totally Devoted Family Cookies and wrote a poem about the tasty cookies...

The only sad thing about our experience was that there weren't enough!! Thank you Totally Devoted for giving us an option that is scrumptious, crunchy, and HEALTHY! Totally Devoted makes us happy AND healthy - perfect.

CORE Cluuuubbb!!!

Ruma Tekau Ma Tahi have begun CORE Club on Wednesday afternoons. Amongst lots of adjectives of our own, CORE stands for Chill Out and RE-connect, which is exactly what we did yesterday in our first week...!

We planned with Koka to make CORE Club fluid and student-directed. Some of us set-up an art table, some of us shared time on the computers, some of us asked Koka to teach us some new maths games, some of us spent some time hula-hooping and skipping outside in the afternoon sun, and some of us even asked Koka to practice our reading with us!

Sonia-Leigh's whanau shared some chocolate cake with us and Matua Aaron brought in homemade pumpkin soup, too!

We can't wait for CORE Club next week...

Who We Are - steps 3 & 4

Sigrid has done it for us again...! We are so blessed to have our very own artist create learning experiences for us to paint our own - GIGANTIC! - self-portraits...

Here we are exploring steps 3 & 4... Writing our 'intention' on our canvas ("I am happy to be me - who I am on the inside and the outside"), and choosing 3 colours that make us feel happy for our base!

We look forward to our next steps - thank you, Sigrid!! :-)
